Someone is going to get fired…

99% of people are going to read  the title to this and instantly think its me who’s getting fired. and you’ll probably think

‘Finally, he does no work and he deserves it’.

Let me first start by saying,

SPam Sandwich

I’ve never really been one to get involved with the sending and receiving of junk emails. I’ve actually and still haven’t ever had my own private email account, they have always either been academic or work related email accounts.

And generally this means that you get to filter out all the nonsense you would generally find on the net. Nothing of the sort of spam or random jokes or inapropriate emails get sent to me. And I certainly don’t partake in joining up to random sites which spam you, highlighting the necessity to give out all your personal data in order to, as they call it, engage in pointless activities like responding to this…

‘You’ve won a trip to Barbados to shave poodle on fire, all we need are ALL your personal details and your monies’

So you can expect my dismay after trying to arrange a lunch time meeting with my group, one of my superiors decided to get me onto his emailing list.

I thought, what the heck not, it’s just a way of keeping me included in work functions and notifications of stuff, exchellente

But it turns out, he is a junk mail spammer, especially of ‘funnies’. Or supposed ‘Funnies’

Now anyone who knows my sense of humour would realise that if a ‘funny’ message can be sent during the working day to colleagues, it’s pretty much not a funny incident.

Anything you would really want to see to make you laugh is highly inapplicable to be watched in an office type environment. I know this is pretty general but for most of the time, it’s kinda right.

But this guy sends ‘dad jokes’, which at the best of times is grating and normally don’t even get watched now or make much sense. Especially with video attachments with ‘turn the volume right up’  written on them. These were tactics used to goad people into getting a fright all the way back in the ice age days of the internet.

A lazy bum like myself who has seen and heard it all before, while under the guise of ‘studying at uni’, won’t be taken for a mug with those gems.

The funny thing is you would see and hear the other 45+ year old guys in the office, chuckling, like a mexican wave from one end of the office to the other, as the penny finally clicks that they had all been duped.

Hey Mrs Clinton, check out what George sent me,

it’s HILARY-rious, LMAO :-/

I imagine them all in my head saying stuff like ‘you got pwned’ and shuddering like the times you unfortunately get that flash back of your daddy on top of your mommy as a child that you tried hard to suppress with Christal Meth acid trips and bisexual badger bukakke porn.

Which in all seriousness I can vouch exists, unlike the holy grail that is aboriginee porn but that quest is another post for another day…

Saying this, I wonder when  these dinosaurs are going to realise they can find find that thing called ‘pornography’ on line and they don’t have to watch it on projectors anymore in their living rooms in their drinking robes.

But to each to their owns, this string of spam mail doesn’t affect my life so I let sleeping dog lies.

But one day, this came into my inbox. And it certainly did irk

I’m tired

“I’m 76 and I’m Tired” by Bill Cosby

I’m 76. Except for brief period in the 50’s when I was doing my National Service, I’ve worked hard since I was 17. Except for some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn’t call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a “Religion of Peace,” when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family “honour”; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren’t “believers”; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for “adultery”; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to. I’m tired of being told that out of “tolerance for other cultures” we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia, New Zealand, UK, America and Canada, while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I’m really tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

I’m also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20’s bedeck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 76.. Because, mostly, I’m not going to have to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter and her children. Thank God I’m on the way out and not on the way in.

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

As you can imagine, I didn’t send it on, or at least not in the format intended…

My spider sense does indeed tingle

Alarm bells did indeed start to ring.

Is sending this kinda thing normal? I mean there’s alot of stuff in that message that is fine, dandy and opinionated but is really starting off  by far the beefiest paragraph with a setence that goes

I’m tired of been told islam is a religion of peace

really going to stir up any sense of increased conforming and adhesion in the office place, especially an international one?

I kinda sighed and just shook my head at this one, its kinda sad when you see people drop the ball on things.

Now, my manager is indeed a man of a generation, a generation somewhat non tolerant or particularly happy with the direction shit is going today and that is fair enough. I’m sure alot of us aren’t happy with that direction either.

However, this email had been sent out as a group email to one of his peers in the office, who forwarded it to him ‘privately’. This gentleman then decided to make it the business of everyone else on his emailing list.

That’s when you enter an unfunny hot spot me thinks.

I presume that my manager had no real idea that I was at least, islamic by original name,  and 50% from islamic descent where half of my family still practice it.

But then I easily could have been fully Islamic and where could it have left me?, or any other islamic people in the office for that matter.

I had more than enough evidence to file something against him, considering it was sent directly to my email and to everyone else’s, it could have been seen as bullying and office intimidation, it could have been seen as all sorts. And he really wouldn’t have a leg to stand on

Oh but you say

At least it’s not racist and it is not necessarily his opinion, but the opinion of a famous african american ‘comic’, so it is satirical at best

Well dear sir, you may have some point with this but unfortunately, you’ve barked up the wrong tree, because I happen to FUCKING LOVE BILL COSBY, and I could tell this email was a ruse from the offset.

The Cosby Factfile

For those of you who don’t know Bill Cosby if a comedian and he was on one of the biggest african american situation comedies of the 80s, called the Cosby show and this is where I first encountered him.

Bill Cosby,  as the delectable Dr Heathcliffe huxtable from the Cosby show, the man Born on my birth date, born on my father’s birth date and probably the same day as my father as well (which is eerie because they look alike),  is the man I had wished growing up was my dad.

His dad dancing, calmness, relationship with his wife, wisdom, work ethic and the way he related to his children, his kid, his colleagues, complete strangers, his patience and everyone he touched was purely an inspiration for me.

He built, he never cut down,

He cured and never caused

And he rose and strived and never cowered and hid.

He was a father, a husband but most importantly a man. Not a black man, a man on any scale or format. Not a stereotype, not a type cast, just a man. No, not just a man, a great man, A pioneer for all who followed him, like a cool lenny henry.

Surely he couldn’t have spit out such skewed truths?

On a side note, As nice as my mother is, the crazy mere is no Phyllicia Rashard. Arguably just as beautiful (and certainly has aged better but this isn’t a ‘hot or not’ post for my mother, that’s for when i really run out of things to talk about).

And i was forever waiting for the bombshell as a young child when I would finally get that notification that I was indeed adopted and an actual Huxtable, but the stupid STUPID letter never came

But putting the cool calm collective father figure portrayed in the role aside, Mr Huxtable may not be the world’s greatest dancer but his portraying actor can certainly voice an opinion.

Now I know that in the past, Mr Cosby, has come out and said some honest truths, things that have offended people, but those are people in his own regional and ethnic community, not others. He has been well cited (well, well-sited if you look out for this stuff) for coming down on african american communities, with regards to keeping their youth and communities on track, especially their parenting and moral compasses.

So for me to read a piece that he had provided and for it to not have any  of those sort of connotation, the ones he’s most well known for, seemed a lil bit bizzare.

and also considering since we are born on the same day, why it took so long for it to come out, seems odd.

ANd worst of all if you look at the post in great detail, It suggest this

The piece cuts down, it doesn’t build

It causes problems, it doesn’t cure them

It is spam mail, a product of cowardice and hiding, it’s not said with a risen and strived public appearance infront of an audience of millions.

It is the antithesis of everything I believed Cosby, my real father, was as a child.

I just couldn’t accept this, I just couldn’t, so I did some digging and…..

Boom, head shot

It’s not BIll cosby afterall, turns out it’s some american politician,  Robert Hall, who loe and behold DOES indeed write some stuff about other socio-economic groups in his original format. Infact, the piece could be said to be every kinda -ist under the planet.

Below is his wiki page and a link to the original piece.

|Robert Hall Wiki

Robert Hall’s original blog

And with this piece, it’s just that bit a lil bit less neutral and agenda based. DEFINITELY NOT WORK MATERIAL. Had this version gone out, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t have even had crossed his mind to release it out.

I suppose the people who originally formatted Robert  Hall’s piece decided to take it out the racial content thinking that is not the type of thing that the beloved Bill Cosby would say because he is of said race.Oh how wrong they were, that was their first mistake.

They also took  out some things that were only applicable perhaps to more American ways of life, so those were taken out as well. I presume they were a British bunch of folk who wanted to distribute it here and make it applicable to life in the current UK situation. Then put a smiley foreign comedians face on it in order to make it more palatable to here. They know how we all soak up American humour.

Infact I know it’s British edited because America spells honour as ‘honor’, while we include the letter ‘u’, so my previous detective skills and hypothesis is somewhat accurate.

Like I said earlier, going back to a nay-sayer’s argument

But If it comes from the well loved COSBY’s mouth , it must not  be a problem right, it’s COMEDY?

But it didn’t.It’s not comedy, it’s a ignorant opinion. From a jaded rich politician sitting in his big house in a surburban paradise with too much free time in their hands so the devil decides to make work for them. Clearly not too tired towrite and chat shit online I see…

So it IS a problem, a very big one, especially when presented it at work.

I guess that’s good detective work on my place, muhaahahahaha, take that KLAW

The Punchline

I’m not sure this is the sort of thing that should be passed around the workplace, all it does it reinforce negative stereotypes, and I know I am going to involve myself in one here unfortunately but it involves the reinforcement of stereotypes amongst people who have or have had very little contact with people of other cultures.

Everyone’s cultures have been involved of unspeakable heinous acts at one point of history or another. And we have all been suppressed and at the same time suppressed others. You can’t just simply blanket people as ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Saying this, most religious concepts themselves are harmless, it is their interpretation that is dangerous but then again, so is the interpretation of what some people consider work-safe ‘funny’ emails.

What’s needed is simply more integration, it’s hard to point rash comments about people when they are in your lives. It’s funny, I have this mixed race Asian friend (of half pakistani descent) who is racially ambiguous but practices in the culture privately, and she keeps telling me of stories of unsuspecting friends and people she meet who start off stories with

‘I’m not racist but…’

followed by some grotesque depiction of asian communities. And she would just sit there and smile at take their complete and utter ignorance at face value. With a smile even.

I would ask her why she took it and she would reply

‘It’s better to know when push came to shove, how i stood with them and how they saw the ‘real’ me.’

SO with all my strength, I have taken the same route with this one. I now know how he sees me and how other people in the office potentially see me.

There were some people that replied to defend the post, or asked to be taken off his email list or stuff but there were plenty that replied and laughed at it as part of the mexican wave of laughter I described earlier.

Oh well..

Why is no one laughing?

Everyday I think I have a good understanding of what the world is like and people in them are like, someone goes and shows me the world is just that little bit more dim. or that I’m a lil bit more short sighted than I thought.

I want to make a positive impact on this planet and leave it a little bit brighter then when i came into it. Probably just like Rober Hall originally did all those years ago when he first wanted to be a politician, to make a difference.

I just hope I never grow tired too…
